Meet Jo the Owner of Ruffs Rescue whom we support!

Your Health, Our Priority

Ruffs Rescue -

Please Help Us Keep Saving Dogs

Hi, my name is Jo, and I am the owner of Ruffs Rescue.

Saving dogs has been part of who I am since I was a little girl. I have always been the person who could not walk away from an animal in need. In 2010, I went to Kavos and rescued a dog. Because of the rabies laws at the time, it was not simple, but that moment changed my life forever. From that experience, Ruffs Rescue was born.

At the beginning, it was just me taking in dogs and doing everything I could to help them. But the need became overwhelming. More and more dogs needed safety, food, medical care, and love. Thankfully, kind-hearted people began volunteering to help me, and together we have saved many dogs and helped them find loving homes.

Not every story is easy. Some of our dogs are what we call our lifers. Because of trauma, neglect, or behavioural difficulties, they cannot be rehomed. They stay with us for life, relying on us every single day for care, food, shelter, and veterinary treatment. They may not be easy dogs, but they still deserve love, safety, and dignity.

The truth is, we receive no funding to continue this work. Every meal, every vet bill, every blanket, every warm bed comes from what we can somehow manage to find. There are times I have lived with very little myself just to make sure the dogs have what they need.

Andrea Waddington saw how hard things had become. She encouraged me not to give up, helped me train as a Reiki practitioner for dogs, and reminded me that this work matters and that people do care.

So today, I am asking for your help.

How You Can Help

  • Sponsor one of our lifers and help cover their ongoing care
  • Adopt or rehome a dog who is ready for their forever home (donation fee applies)
  • Make a one-off donation to help with food and urgent vet fees
  • Share our dogs who are looking for homes
  • Follow and support our Facebook page
  • Buy free range eggs from us or choose us for Reiki for your pets (all proceeds go to the upkeep of the rescue)

Every share, every pound, every act of kindness makes a real difference.

Pluto

Meet Pluto – Looking for His Forever Home

This handsome boy is Pluto, a 7-year-old with a huge personality and so much love to give. He has been with us since 2023 and is more than ready to find the safe, loving home he truly deserves.

Pluto’s story has not been an easy one. He was found abandoned in Hull, tied to a lamppost overnight in freezing temperatures. He was already known to the dog warden after being recovered so many times. Despite everything he has been through, Pluto has kept his spirit, his character, and his trust in people.

He is a real character — clever, funny, easy-going, and full of life. Pluto is also very smart and likes to keep you on your toes. He does have a mischievous side and is a bit of an escape artist, so he will need a secure environment and someone who understands how switched on he is.

Pluto’s Ideal Home

  • Large, secure garden
  • Experienced and understanding owner
  • Children aged 10+ due to his size
  • Can live with dogs, especially females
  • No cats, birds, or small furries

Health

Pluto has pollen allergies which are well managed with Apoquel. The rescue will continue to fund this treatment.

Pluto has waited a long time for someone to see the wonderful dog he is. He does not need perfection — just someone willing to give him the chance he deserves.

If you think you could offer Pluto his forever home, please get in touch.

Nellie

Meet Nellie – Looking for a Patient, Loving Home

Beautiful Nellie is searching for the right home where she can finally feel safe, secure, and loved.

Nellie was abandoned on an empty travellers site, and sadly that experience has left its mark. Because of what she has been through, she struggles with separation anxiety and finds being left alone difficult. She will need an understanding home willing to give her patience, reassurance, and time to settle.

She is currently in foster care where she is doing really well. Her wonderful foster family are working hard with her on crate training, as she can become destructive and chew when anxious or left alone. With consistency, kindness, and the right support, Nellie is making great progress.

Nellie absolutely loves the other dogs in her foster home and has shown that she really benefits from canine company. For that reason, she would need to live with another friendly dog in her forever home. She has also previously lived with cats.

Nellie’s Ideal Home

  • Patient and understanding owners
  • A home with another dog
  • Someone willing to continue her training and build her confidence
  • A calm environment where she feels secure
  • Can live with cats

Health

Nellie has no health issues and is due to be spayed shortly.

She has her whole life ahead of her and deserves the chance to enjoy it with a family who will love her for who she is. Nellie is ready for her happy ending.

If you think you could offer Nellie the caring home she needs, please get in touch.

Rusty

Tilly

Rusty - The one who is looking for someone to love him as much as he loves Hoomans

Rusty is a 4 year old border collie who found himself in the pound through no fault of his own after his elderly owner sadly died.

Rusty is not well socialised, however he is adapting well. A little scared of men and not a fan of children.

He is good in all ways, clean in his kennel. Great with the other dogs but not small animals or birds.

He is house trained and very clean. Good at crate travel and improving very much on the lead.

He is going to have a chemical implant for castration at the beginning of May and will be fully neutered in 6 months time if it doesn’t  affect his temperament.

Tilly

Tilly

Meet Tilly – A Gentle Soul Looking for the Right Home

Lovely Tilly is searching for a very special home where she can continue to grow in confidence and enjoy the simple life she loves.

Tilly was transported from Eastern Europe in 2021. She arrived as a very feral and frightened dog who relied heavily on her sister for comfort and support. Sadly, they were separated during transport, which was incredibly hard on them both.

Since then, Tilly has shown everyone what a sweet and unique little soul she is. She loves the simple things in life — her house, her pen, her routine, and all the little treasures she likes to collect from the other dogs’ kennels when they are out playing. She really is like a little mermaid with her trinkets.

Tilly will need a home that understands she cannot be rushed. She will need plenty of time, patience, and kindness to settle into a new environment and learn to trust at her own pace.

One thing we do know is that Tilly needs a constant canine companion. She would be happiest with an easy-going male dog who does not mind being gently bossed about now and then.

Tilly’s Ideal Home

  • Calm, patient, understanding owners
  • Time to let her settle at her own pace
  • A resident male dog for companionship
  • A secure home with routine and consistency
  • People who appreciate the little things in life

Tilly is a gorgeous little dog who loves her life, enjoys long walks, and deserves a future filled with safety and love.

If you think you could offer Tilly the special home she needs, please get in touch.

Pearl

Pearl

Pearl has joined us recently from the pound after been abandoned by travellers when they moved on.

She has been bred from a lot and was skeletal. It has left her with scavenger tendencies unfortunately.

Very nervous and gentle, such a sweet girl.

She is great with other dogs and loves children.

Very respectful of the 2 lifers we have in the home that are chihuahua crosses!

She has met the farm cats and wound chase if they ran. She Fosters in our home with birds but is not allowed to be in the kitchen when the parrots are free flying. She does have a prey drive but it’s not very strong but enough not to place her with animals she can chase or catch.

Saluki x whippet around 5 years old.

She’s putting on weight slowly but surely and will be vaccinated soon with neuter to follow.

Separation anxiety causes her not to be happy to be closed in but she is happy left for a couple of hours max when she is settled and relaxed.

Dogs that cannot be rehomed

Some of our dogs cannot be rehomed and will stay with us for life. They still need everything any loved dog needs — safety, food, veterinary care, warmth, patience, and people who will not give up on them. Right now, some of them are desperately in need of sponsors.

More information to follow.

Andrea Waddington sponsors Clover, who is pictured above. Andrea says she has a soft spot for those with attitude, and Clover may not be a person, but she certainly ticks that box in a dog’s world.

Clover belongs to Spaniel Assist and is fostered by us at Ruffs Rescue due to her many behavioural issues.  Clover has come from an abusive past and this sadly has meant she doesn't trust many.

Clover needs careful handling, which sadly means she cannot be rehomed. But being unable to live in a home does not make her any less deserving of love, comfort, and a good life.

Clover is not the only dog who will remain with us for life. Caring for our lifetimers takes huge amounts of love, time, energy, and money every single day.

If you feel you could sponsor Clover or another of our forever dogs, please get in touch.

Animal Reiki

Animal Reiki — Gentle Support for Your Pet

Supporting fur babies and their humans, naturally.

.

🐾 Animal Reiki – Healing Energy for Your Fur Babies  £25.00

Animals are deeply sensitive beings who, like us, can experience stress, pain, and emotional imbalance. Animal Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing practice that channels universal life energy to support your fur baby’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

At Ruffs Rescue, we offer Animal Reiki both in-person and distantly, so no matter where you and your pet are, they can receive the benefits of this loving energy.

 What is Animal Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique based on the principle that energy flows through all living things. Fur babies are naturally receptive to Reiki energy, and many will relax deeply during a session—sometimes even falling asleep.

Reiki can be given while your pet is in the same room, or sent across distance with equal effectiveness. This makes it especially helpful for animals who are anxious, unwell, or unable to travel.

💖 Benefits of Animal Reiki

Animal Reiki may help with:

  • 🐕 Stress & Anxiety – calming nervous or reactive pets

  • 🐈 Emotional Healing – supporting rescues, grieving animals, or those adjusting to change

  • 🐴 Physical Well-being – easing pain, inflammation, or recovery after illness or surgery

  • 🐾 Behavioural Issues – helping pets feel more balanced and secure

  • 🕊 End-of-Life Comfort – providing gentle support for fur babies in palliative care

  • 🧘 Bonding – strengthening the connection between fur babies and their humans

Each fur baby responds uniquely, but many humans notice their pets becoming calmer, happier, and more at ease after Reiki sessions.

 In-Person or Distant Healing

  • In-Person Sessions:  Sessions are best in your home as this is where your fur baby is the most comfortable or you can come to the centre if you wish at Andrea's Healing & Wellbeing Centre.

  • Distant Sessions: Just as effective, perfect for pets who are nervous around strangers, struggle to travel, or live further away.

No matter how it’s given, Reiki energy always flows to where it is most needed.

🌟 A Gentle Gift for Your Fur Babies

Whether your pet is facing health challenges, behavioural issues, or simply deserves some extra love and balance, Animal Reiki offers a safe, natural way to support their well-being.
